Political and Empirical Economics Master's programme
The master’s programme Political and Empirical Economics provides in-depth knowledge and problem-related specialisation of knowledge and skills acquired in a subject-related bachelor’s programme. Students are made familiar with state-of-the-art research, theoretical basics and empirical methodology, which they combine and learn to apply to specific problems. Building on an analytical and methodical basic module, they can either choose Political Economics (PEC) or Empirical Economics (EED) as speciality. PEC focuses on the special criteria of political decision-making processes and the economic and political implementation of knowledge of economics. Various options enable individual specialisations in areas such as applied business research, political consulting and interdisciplinary research. The EEC focus - taught in English - provides in-depth knowledge in empirical-quantitative and econometric methodology. This particularly builds a solid basis for activities in branches of business, science and research based on quantity. EEC is also offered as a double degree in co-operation with the University of Udine. Language skills are fostered by means of English textbooks and courses in both programmes, leading to independent research activities in the frame of seminar papers and master’s theses.
Graduates of the master’s programme Political and Empirical Economics will have acquired in-depth knowledge of economics and specialist knowledge in certain branches. They will be able to think in an abstract manner, in models and independently, to analyse problems as well as to select and apply subject-related methodology and procedures. Moreover, graduates of the programme Political Economics will be able to apply theory and methodology of economics in a politically relevant manner and thus solve economic problems, taking into account interdisciplinary and political aspects. Graduates of the programme Empirical Economics will especially be able to apply theory to concrete problems. They will able to use empirical, quantitative and econometric methods to solve problems of economics and to critically intepret results derived from them.
