Environmental Systems Sciences – Geography Master’s programme
The master’s programme Environmental Systems Sciences - Geography enhances and deepens theoretical knowledge and practical skills in subareas of geography, geographical technology, systems science and interdisciplinarity. Moreover, students may also specialise either in geography and climatology (mountain geography, geomorphology, climatology, hydrology, natural hazards research, monitoring and modelling or sustainable urban and regional development (models, conflict areas, strategic planning and urban and regional development, tourist development and planning, communication with various stakeholders). This programme includes systems sciences, with a particular focus being placed on methods of systems integration, assessment and modeling for sustainable development, reduction of hazards and improvement of living conditions in the man-environment system. Students are able to design their own elective courses and thus individualise their qualification profile, while the opportunity to work in an interdisciplinary team during an internship, in which students are faced with real-world problems, encourages them to apply acquired competences to concrete and on-going problems.
Graduates of the master’s programme Environmental Systems Sciences - Geography will have acquired comprehensive theoretical and practical knowledge and will be experts in their specialist area (geography and climatology or sustainable urban and regional development). Their interdisciplinary education will enable them to deal with complex systems, to translate them into models, to assess their organisation and dynamics and to elaborate and implement sustainable courses of action.
