Translation Master's programme
The master's programme Translation builds on theoretical and practical knowledge acquired in a relevant bachelor's programme. It offers in-depth knowledge of (foreign) languages and translation skills acquired in the bachelor's programme.
The programme encompasses the following languages:
Arabic, Bosnian/Croatian/Serbian, German, English, French, Italian, Austrian sign language, Russian, Slovenian, Spanish, Turkish, Hungarian
The programme focusses on conveying fundamental scientific knowledge and methods as well as practical skills required for professional work in the field of translation and translation studies. Studies or internships abroad are an obligatory part of the education. Experience gained in the aforesaid area fosters linguistic skills as well as social and intercultural competences that are prerequisite to the profession of the translator.
Graduates of the master's programme Translation are highly specialised translation experts. They will have developed the ability to engage in open and critical discourse on the societal and cultural conditions of translation, will have enhanced their competence in critically dealing with translation-related models and methods, while acquiring the ability to work independently in the field of science and to organise and conduct scientific projects. In addition to their translation knowledge, graduates will have acquired key competences for their later careers, such as a broad scope of different mental, social and technical skills.
