Sports Sciences and Kinesiology Bachelor's programme

Course outline, qualifications and competences

The bachelor’s programme Sports Sciences and Kinesiology provides basic scientific knowledge and methods allowing students to tackle questions relating to sports sciences. It focuses on human movement and on all experiences, dimensions and processes of the human body related to movement. This programme teaches basics from the areas of kinesiology (mathematical methods to analyse questions of sports sciences, description and analysis, dynamometry of movement, etc.), training sciences (principles, planning, organisation and analysis of training, diagnostics of suitability and performance, etc.), sports pedagogy and health promotion (models and theories of teaching and health behaviour, sports-related educational targets etc.), sports medicine (anatomy, physiology, first aid, syndromes, etc.) as well as theory and practice of different kinds of sports. This programme is about acquiring a theoretical and practical pre-professional education enabling students to teach and assess movement and sports from the perspective of the disciplines named above. Since the programme is application-oriented, students experience and thus acquire competences in various different types of kinesiology and sports. Moreover, students are required to complete internships  outside of university. If students continue their studies with the master’s programme Sports Science and Kinesiology (focusing on Health Promotion, Prevention and Therapy), they will qualify for professional therapeutical training jobs.

Expected results

Undergraduates of this bachelor’s programme will have acquired fundamental knowledge that allows them to use sport sciences and kinesiology to analyse and solve questions related to the disciplines of kinesiology and sports education, kinesiology, performance physiology and training sciences in connection with the areas of health promotion, prevention, rehabilitation, performance enhancement and promotion of sports.
