Romance Studies Master's programme

Course outline, qualifications and competences

The aim of the master’s programme Romance Studies is to enhance and deepen the skills acquired in a relevant bachelor’s programme. The programme focuses on the scientific subareas of linguistics and literature. The programme includes the following languages: French, Italian und Spanish. By the end of the programme, linguistic skills in the chosen Romance language correspond to CEFR level C2. Students are able to express themselves orally and in a written form, adapting their language to the specific situation. This magister’s programme provides an in-depth knowledge of relevant theories and methods of scientific sub-areas of the discipline. During their studies, students acquire key qualifications and soft skills for their careers. These include practical lingustic skills in the native and foreign language, scientific-analytical competences and the ability to communicate in a competent, tolerant and open manner in intercultural contexts.

Expected results

Graduates of the master’s programme Romance Studies will have acquired excellent knowledge and language skills in one Romance language. They will be able to independently expand their knowledge in specific scientific areas as well as continuously enhance their linguistic skills. Moreover, graduates will be able to employ their knowledge and cultural competence and adapt it to the relevant professional requirements.
