Law Diploma programme
The diploma programme Law is a preparatory programme for universal legal professions. This programme focuses on law in general and on the Austrian legal system and its international implications in particular. It provides education in all core subjects of Austrian law (Public Law, Private Law, Criminal Law, Social and Labour Laws, Financial Law, Insolvency Law, Company Law, individual procedural laws) as well as knowledge of International Law (European Law, Public International Law, Conflict of Laws). Students are able to grasp the connection between different disciplines and to apply their knowledge to practical cases and legal questions with the support of theory and methods. Besides subject-related knowledge of their discipline, its theories and methods, it is necessary to learn all about political science and social and economic sciences, since law should be regarded in a societal, social and economic context. Students may individualise their studies by specialising in their third cycle in one of the following areas: International Relations, Justice, Public Administration, Politics and Society or Business.
Graduates of the diploma programme Law will have acquired a general and broad legal education. They will have acquired knowledge of Austrian and European law including the development of theory and methodology of that subject. They will have a comprehensive understanding of law, its principles, connections and targets as well as its individual subareas and tools. Graduates will be able to independently solve legal problems in a competent and targeted manner. The will possess key competence and soft skills for their professional careers, such as awareness for legal problems, the ability to argue on a legal level, and will have command of oral and written communication and organisation skills.
