Space Sciences and Earth from Space Master's programme
The master’s programme Space Sciences and Earth from Space is offered as part of a NAWI Graz cooperation programme between the University of Graz and Graz University of Technology. Moreover, the programme includes studying at extra-academic research facilities of the Space Research Institute of the Austrian Academy of Sciences, and at Joanneum Research. Students initially acquire knowledge of Physics, Geodesy, Electrical Engineering and Environmental System Sciences. The subject and focuses of the programme convey knowledge and competence in space sciences and specific scientific areas related to the Earth’s system in accordance with current research. Students can enhance their studies and adapt them to their personal interests by specialising in certain areas: solar system physics (physics of the sun and planets, space plasma physics, etc.), satellite systems (satellite communications and navigation, satellites used for civil protection, telemedicine, etc.) or earth system from space (observation of terrestrial and ice masses, of oceans, etc. by satellites, physical description and numerical modelling of observations). Students acquire both broad theoretical knowledge and the skills needed to use various different methods.
Graduates will have acquired understanding of basic interdependences in space sciences and will be able to independently deal with scientific questions using theories and methods. They will be able to assess and improve existing methods and technology as well as develop innovative systems and solutions.
