Philosophy Bachelor's programme
The bachelor’s programme Philosophy provides basic training in the broad discipline of philosophy. Students are familiarised with philosophical disciplines, the history of philosophy, problems of the discipline and scientific methods. Philosophy investigates human action and its principles based on holism and reason. Due to methodical and content-related peculiarities of philosophical research, it is regarded as a reflective discipline that analyses all prerequisites of thinking and action and questions theories established in the past (theoretical philosophy). Besides dealing with theoretical subareas of philosophy, students learn the basics of practical philosophy (ethics, social philosophy, philosophy of culture, philosophical anthropology, philosophy of religion, aesthetics, etc.). This programme is intended to provide a basis for critical and constructive reflection on questions of theoretical world orientation and moral and political life. Beyond this specialist knowledge, students acquire key qualifications and soft skills.
Undergraduates of the bachelor’s programme Philosophy will have acquired basic training in the areas of theoretical and practical philosophy as well as humanistic education. They will be able to understand philosophical works and work with philosophical positions and schools of thought at an academic level. Students will have acquired social skills, the ability of self-reflection, proficiency in oral and written expression and the ability to identify and solve problems.
