Molecular Microbiology Master's programme
The master’s programme Molecular Biology is offered as part of a NAWI Graz co-operation programme between the University of Graz and Graz University of Technology. The range of courses is broad, interdisciplinary and cross-academic. Elective courses allow students to individualise their qualification profile and adapt it to their future career. The programme enables students to acquire in-depth knowledge in the area of molecular microbiology. Core areas are molecular bacteriology (including medically relevant aspects of infection biology) and molecular cell biology (with a particular focus on eukaryotic organisms). The programme has a strong practical focus, requiring students to spend much time in practical laboratory courses. Thus they acquire various different working and analysis techniques in microbiology, molecular biology, biochemistry and genetic engineering and learn to independently plan and carry out microbiological and molecular biological experiments and analysis. Besides specialist knowledge, students acquire soft skills such as troubleshooting competences, teamwork, media and social skills.
Graduates of the master’s programme Molecular Microbiology will have acquired comprehensive specialist knowledge and practical skills in the areas of microbiology, cell biology, genetics and infection biology with a special focus on molecular biology aspects. They will be able to independently develop, formulate and analyse scientific problems in the said areas using current scientific knowledge.
