Mathematics Bachelor's programme

Course outline, qualifications and competences

The bachelor’s programme Mathematics is offered as part of a NAWI Graz cooperation programme between the University of Graz and Graz University of Technology. The range of courses is broad, interdisciplinary and cross-academic. The programme provides sound basic education in the area of mathematics, building theoretical and practical knowledge in key areas of mathematics. This includes differential and integral calculus, linear algebra, analytical geometry, algebraic structures, discrete mathematics, numerical methods, optimisation or probability theory and statistics. Building on these foundations, students have the opportunity to focus on individual subareas: applied mathematics, discrete mathematics and theory of algorithms, financial mathematics and insurance mathematics or technomathematics. Students are thus able to tailor their individual qualification profile to their future careers in business, industry or science. Due to their in-depth study of mathematical ways of thinking and working, students acquire several key qualifications. They are trained in formal, analytical and abstract thinking, possess solid knowledge of the language of mathematics and are able to recognise and apply complex structures as well as deal with computer-based mathematical models.

Expected results

Undergraduates of the bachelor’s programme Mathematics will be familiar with mathematical theories and methods in key areas of the subject and proficient in dealing with mathematical tools. Besides teaching technical skills, this programme provides students with additional skills such as soft skills, the ability to work in a team, troubleshooting competences and written and oral communication skills.
