Teacher Training Programme for Secondary Level General Education Bachelor's programme
The bachelor's programme entitled “Teacher Training Programme for Secondary Level General Education” is provided in the framework of the Entwicklungsverbund Süd-Ost (EVSO) network.
The aim of this bachelor's programme is to thoroughly prepare students for a teaching career at middle and upper schools as well as to qualify them for a master's programme in this area. In the teacher training programme for secondary level general education, students can choose either two teaching subjects or one teaching subject and a specialisation in “Inclusive Education with a Focus on Special Needs” or “In-depth Catholic Religious Education for Primary Level” (can only be combined with the teaching subject Catholic Religion)
Comprehensive specialist knowledge is taught in the teaching subjects and specialisations. The students are able to use methods and theories to answer specific questions as well as to explain the topics orally and in writing.
Students are also trained in teaching methodology, learning to plan their lessons long-term in the context of their particular area of expertise, to optimally design the teaching and learning process, to grade work, etc. Knowledge of educational sciences enables students to work in an educational context, making use of academic theories and methods. They focus on teaching, learning and teaching as a career as well as on the development of education theories, systems and schools.
Practical education studies make up a central part of the teaching degree, consisting of work experience placements in schools combined with accompanying courses. They combine specialist knowledge, methodology and principles of educational sciences as well as helping students to acquire specific professional competences and skills.
Graduates of a “Teacher Training Programme for Secondary Level General Education” bachelor's programme have comprehensive specialist and methodological skills in two teaching subjects or specialisations. They have also acquired knowledge of education theories and methods, and have gained experience in schools. Graduates have personal and methodical competences, which enable them to teach lesson content while taking into account different age groups as well as differences between learners (talent, special needs, gender, intercultural aspects, difference in ability, etc.). They can plan, evaluate, reflect on and further develop lessons.
