Interdisciplinary Women's and Gender Studies Master's programme
The master’s programme Interdisciplinary Women's and Gender Studies trains students from various areas of study to become experts in gender issues (gender experts). This programme focuses on the significance of gender for individual people, society and culture. In today’s professional world, it is particularly important to acquire specialist knowledge about how to remove inequality and foster equal treatment of men and women. This programme accordingly focuses on preparatory professional education and research-based training that also integrates practical aspects. Students acquire basic knowledge of the development and scientific theories and methods of gender studies, including gender aspects of law. They deal with specific questions relating to gender in social structures (politics, economy, employment, religion, upbringing, education, etc.) and to effects of gender category on social positions. Furthermore, students learn about theories and methods of socio-cultural scientific gender studies. Students are able to specialise within their subject area by selecting two in-depth modules (e.g. gender and religion, gender inequality: theoretical analysis - political strategy, gender relations in a changing society, etc.) and completing an obligatory internship within the same area.
Graduates of the master’s programme Interdisciplinary Women's and Gender Studies will have acquired profound scientific gender skills and thus an important additional qualification for today’s professional world. Students will learn to plausibly communicate gender-specific issues and independently analyse them using verified methods, while taking interdisciplinary connections and current research into consideration.
