History Bachelor’s programme
The bachelor’s programme of History deals with knowledge of sources from the past. Students acquire theoretical knowledge about the history of mankind, genders, society, economy and technology, politics and nations as well as culture, knowledge and education. In addition to knowledge of past events, their connections to and significance for the present, the course teaches students how to deal scientifically with sources and specialist literature and promotes subject-related scientific discussion. The aim of this programme is to teach students how to use and analyse key methods to access history and its sources with the aid of traditional (journals, books, etc) and new media (databases, internet, etc.). Students should acquire the ability to recognise human, regional and factual as well as chronological connections and to present them appropriately. In addition to subject-specific skills, students also acquire personal and social skills such as the ability to work in a targeted and independent manner, as well as competences in presentation, teamwork and communication.
Undergraduates of the bachelor’s programme History will have developed the ability to engage in this scientific subject. They will have acquired basic theoretical knowledge about history from the beginning of human history. Skills acquired in the bachelor’s programme include the ability to deal with historical questions using theory and methodology, enhanced intellectual flexibility, the ability to rapidly grasp complex connections as well as an excellent mastery of written and oral forms of expression. Students will be able to use their qualifications and competences flexibly and adapt to various different requirements.
