Chemistry Master's programme
The master’s programme Chemistry is offered as part of a NAWI Graz co-operation programme between the University of Graz and Graz University of Technology. The range of courses is broad, interdisciplinary and cross-academic. This programme aims to train chemical engineers to perform high quality and structured research work as well as contribute to the development of scientific innovations, for example in industry and business. For this purpose, students acquire comprehensive and in-depth knowledge of core chemical subjects (analytical, inorganic, organic and physical chemistry) and of synthetic chemistry as well as methods from neighbouring disciplines such as organic and materials sciences. Elective courses enable students to individualise their qualification profile and adapt it to their future career. These courses range from electrochemistry, catalysis, materials science to spectroscopy and life science. Students enhance their practical skills in the laboratory, thus achieving the ability to independently and deliberately plan, execute and analyse experiments with confidence, while taking current research into account. A highly important aspect of this programme is the completion of an experimental or theoretical master’s thesis.
Graduates of the master’s programme will have acquired sound research-oriented and practical education and will be familiar with working methodology and analytical methods of chemistry and its neighbouring disciplines. They will be able to independently formulate innovative and scientific questions, to deal with them using methods and theories, in order to present their findings to an expert or lay audience in a written and oral form.
