Plant Sciences Master's programme
The master's programme Plant Science is offered as a NAWI Graz co-operation project by the University of Graz and Graz University of Technology. The range of courses is broad, multidisciplinary and cross-university. Students can individualise their qualification profile and adapt their personal professional career plan by means of various elective courses and specialisation possibilities. The master's programme Plant Science focusses on theoretical and practical education with research on plants as a main subject. Research activities in plant science help to manage natural resources and are valuable for developing pharmaceuticals and medicine. The programme includes focuses and in-depth studies in the following three areas: habitat and biodiversity (evolution, nature conservation, renewable raw materials and environmental biotechnology, etc.), physiology and cell biology (development and hormones, stress, natural products analytics and food plants, etc.) as well as biotic interactions (symbioses, coevolution, plant protection and parasites, etc.). A broad variety of methods is conveyed beyond theoretical knowledge. These include plant sociology, field research, geographical information systems, electron microscopy or molecular biology.
Graduates of the master's programme Plant Science will have acquired comprehensive knowledge about the world of plants and state-of-art methods and techniques. Students will be able to prepare their own scientific information and results for a specialist or lay public. They will have gained understanding of basic relationships in plant science and become familiar with managing natural resources.
