English Studies/American Studies Master’s programme
The master’s programme English Studies/American Studies allows students to continue their academic development. Its aim is to enhance and deepen the specialised knowledge acquired in the bachelor’s programme. In today’s professional world, specialization is a particularly important factor and will be introduced over the course of the master’s programme. Students can choose to focus on one subject area (linguistics, literature or cultural science). The students’ abilities and skills in the English language are enhanced and strengthened to enable them to write a scientific paper in compliance with the latest standards. During various courses, they are trained to work well both individually and in groups. Furthermore, they learn various presentation techniques and relevant EDP skills. In addition to subject-related knowledge, the students build on key competences and soft skills such as independent and target-oriented working, multimedia and communication skills as well as developing an in-depth understanding of social, economic and cultural-political processes.
Graduates of the master’s programme English Studies/American Studies will have excellent knowledge of the English language (C2 level according to CEFR), of English-speaking countries and their culture. They will be able to independently expand their knowledge in specific scientific areas as well as continuously enhance their linguistic skills. Moreover, graduates will be able to employ their knowledge and cultural competences and adapt it to the relevant requirements. Their subject-specific and general skills will enable them to work in areas relating to linguistics, text, communication and culture.
