Applied Ethics Master's programme
Applied Ethics deals with basic questions of practical philosophy that methodically and systematically investigate human action and its underlying principles. Relevant areas of interest concern fundamental principles of values and norms, roles and functions of moral concepts as well as rules and structures of decision processes that are rationally explained, investigated and presented. The master’s programme Applied Ethics is an interdisciplinary programme that builds on various different bachelor’s, diploma and secondary school teacher accreditation programmes and which is regarded as a basic education in applied ethics. Students specialise in the following areas: education (ethics instruction in middle and secondary schools), health (medical and nursing ethics), economy & society (business and social ethics). Individual focuses allow students to develop qualification profiles for various different professions. Students acquire sound knowledge of the traditions of moral philosophy, which they can analyse and interpret and subsequently apply plausibly to different contexts of human action.
Graduates of the master’s programme Applied Ethics will have acquired ethical analysis and decision skills and be able to use their knowledge in specific areas of professional practice. Moreover, students will have acquired key qualifications and soft skills for their careers. These include: analytical skills and the ability to apply communication and presentation techniques, teamwork and co-operation skills as well as the ability to conduct interdisciplinary discourse and ethical argumentation.
